Gold Anchor™ — clinical evidence across organ sites.

A guide for the radiation oncologist evaluating fiducial markers in IGRT and SBRT. Each topic below opens a focused post on one clinical scenario, with the published evidence cited on the page.

The migration data, the platform compatibility notes and the full peer-reviewed paper list follow the topic index.

The Hidden Risk

Fiducial migration is
not a rare event.

Published prospective series consistently document significant marker migration rates — particularly in sites with respiratory motion. When a marker migrates, the entire planning registration built around it is invalidated.

The dosimetric consequence is silent: the delivery system executes the plan with sub-millimetre precision — to the wrong location.

Why Gold Anchor stays in place

The Gold Anchor is a folding gold-iron wire with multiple cut-outs machined along its body. When the marker exits the needle tip, the cut-outs allow it to fold and mechanically interlock with surrounding tissue — independent of friction. It cannot drift back toward the needle path.

Deployment Marker folds and anchors instantly — no waiting for tissue encapsulation
Same-day planning CT or MR simulation possible the same day as implantation
Course stability 795-patient, 5-year series: zero migration detected throughout RT
All modalities Gold-iron alloy visible on kV · MV · CBCT · CT · MRI

Developed at

Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm

Invented by Dr. Ingemar Manufacturer — co-inventor of SBRT (1991) together with physicist Prof. Ingmar Lax and Dr. Henric Blomgren. The clinical evidence base is built into the product's origin.
