Saxsons own-brand decay drum range for the half-life-based hold step that sits between the hot-lab waste bin and the final biomedical-waste disposal chain. Lead tiers cover the dispense-energy range: 3 mm for SPECT Tc-99m (decay over ~ 24–72 h), 6 mm for I-131 and mid-energy SPECT (longer-hold), 12 mm for routine PET (FDG / Ga-68), 25 mm for high-activity PET and Lu-177 theranostic. Chassis sizes from the 321×381 mm compact decay-store fit to the 530×1100 mm 100 L high-volume variant for multi-week hold. Actuator-equipped 13 mm tier for the heavier lid mass. MS painted standard outer (cost-optimised for the decay-store room); SS 202 option for stainless hot-lab cleaning cycles. Pairs with the Saxsons waste bin range for seamless transfer of the lifted polybag from collection to decay-hold. Designed and manufactured in India by Saxsons Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. in an ISO 9001 / ISO 13485 approved plant.

Pb tier matches the radiopharmaceutical class · chassis size matches the per-shift solid-waste volume · hold cycle matches the half-life
3 mm Pb tier · 321×450 mm or 321×381 mm compact. Daily polybag transfer from the SPECT waste bin to the decay drum; 72 h hold takes Tc-99m to ~ 0.025 % residual.
6 mm Pb tier handles the 364 keV gamma over the long I-131 hold (~ 80 days to 0.1 % residual). The 321×450 mm standard chassis covers per-shift volume; SS 202 outer recommended for the long surface-contact period.
12 mm Pb tier · F-18 and Ga-68 decay within 18 h and 11 h respectively. The workhorse 321×450 mm chassis is the standard PET radiopharmacy choice.
25 mm Pb tier — ~ 67-day hold to 0.1 % residual for Lu-177 (T½ = 6.7 days). High-shielding tier needed because the hold cycle is long and per-patient activity is high.
530×800 mm or 530×1100 mm (100 L) variants for radiopharmacies with high per-shift solid-waste volumes. Multi-week hold capacity reduces the frequency of decay-out cycling.
Multiple drums in parallel: one per isotope, one per shift cycle. The Saxsons decay drum range covers the per-isotope footprint plan from compact (321×381 mm) to high-volume (530×1100 mm).
The standard radiopharmacy hold cycle is 10 half-lives — radioactivity falls to ~ 0.1 % of the dispensed level, below the regulatory clearance threshold for transfer to the standard biomedical-waste chain. Drum capacity is sized so the hold cycle does not pile up and overflow.
The decay drum sits in a dedicated decay-store room, but the operator handles the drum at fill and at empty. Lead tier must match the radiopharmaceutical class so the dose-rate at the operator hand stays inside the AERB envelope at those handling intervals.
Lu-177 theranostic centres and high-volume PET radiopharmacies generate solid waste faster than the half-life can decay it. The 530×1100 mm 100 L drum gives the multi-week buffer the hold cycle needs without forcing daily drum-swap.
Variant matrix
Fourteen decay-drum configurations from the Saxsons range. The build sheet matches the lead tier to the radiopharmaceutical class, the chassis size to the per-shift solid-waste volume × half-life × hold-cycle product, and the outer material to the decay-store room finish.

Accessories matrix
| Accessory / option | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Half-life-based hold capacity | Drum capacity sized so contents can decay for 10 half-lives (~ 0.1 % residual) — F-18 decays in ~ 18 h, Tc-99m in ~ 2.5 days, I-131 in ~ 80 days, Lu-177 in ~ 67 days. Larger drums accommodate longer-half-life nuclides at higher per-shift volume |
| Actuator-equipped variants | Power-assisted lid open / close on the 13 mm Pb tier — handles the heavier lid mass at the hold cycle interval |
| Compact and standard form factors | Compact 321×381 mm fits a small decay-store; standard 321×450 mm is the workhorse; 530×800 / 530×1100 mm large-volume variants for multi-week hold |
| MS painted / SS 202 outer | MS painted is the cost-optimised choice for the decay-store room; SS 202 for hot-labs that need stainless-steel decontamination |
| Pairs with waste-bin range | Polybag liner transfers from the Saxsons waste-bin (matched Pb tier) to the decay drum — minimal handling between collection and decay-hold |
| AERB chain-of-custody documentation | Drum contents logged per AERB sealed-source-disposal SOP; date of fill + isotope mix + decay-out date recorded; final biomedical-waste transfer with chain-of-custody seal |
