Saxsons own-brand tungsten-alloy vial shield family — high-density, compact-chassis shielding for the dispensing bench. Three tiers cover SPECT routine dispensing (5 mm, slide lock, 30 cc vial), PET routine dispensing (20 mm, 3-part body + lid + magnetic top cap, 15 cc vial) and high-activity PET / Lu-177 theranostic dispensing (30 mm, 2-part cap + base, 30 cc vial). Tungsten's high atomic number (Z = 74) and high density (≈ 19.3 g/cm³) deliver high per-millimetre attenuation — the chassis wall stays thin, the chassis stays small and light, the operator works through high-throughput PET shifts with less hand fatigue. Six worked dispensing workflows the family covers — pick the tier for the isotope and the throughput
5 mm tungsten tier for SPECT routine dispensing where the radiopharmacist wants the lighter, more compact chassis. Slide-lock closure for fast cycle time on cold-kit dispensing.
20 mm tungsten 3-part tier with magnetic top cap. The body holds the vial; the lid carries the needle hole; the magnetic top cap closes the needle access. Per-dispense, the operator pulls the top cap off magnetically, withdraws the dose, drops the cap back. The cap never leaves the shield surface.
20 mm tungsten 3-part tier (same as FDG). Per-generator elution + DOTATATE / DOTATOC / PSMA-11 labelling + 1–4 patient doses at 100–200 MBq. Magnetic top cap closure matches the PET FDG line.
30 mm tungsten 2-part tier for high-activity multi-dose source vials. The separate cap and base allow vial loading without rotating a screw-cap — important when the source vial sits on the bench for hours during the dispensing campaign and needs to be reopened for re-dispensing.
30 mm tungsten 2-part tier for Lu-177 DOTATATE / PSMA-617 / FAPI theranostic dispensing. Higher-energy contribution from internal pair production sits at 511 keV; the 30 mm tungsten tier delivers high per-millimetre attenuation for that photon line in a compact chassis.
Per-shift dispense count drives chassis weight cumulative load on the operator wrist. The tungsten family at 5 mm and 20 mm delivers high per-millimetre attenuation in a measurably lighter chassis — the wrist-load delta over a 30-dispense shift is real on the operator-fatigue log.
Tungsten's high atomic number (Z = 74) and high density (≈ 19.3 g/cm³) deliver high attenuation per millimetre of shielding wall. The chassis wall stays thin; the chassis stays small and light. For a hot-lab bench packed with shielded equipment, the smaller footprint matters; for the operator wrist-load over a high-throughput shift, the lighter chassis matters.
The 20 mm tier uses a three-part construction — body, lid with needle hole, magnetic top cap. Per dispense, only the top cap moves; the lid stays put on the body; the body stays put on the bench. The needle hole stays aligned to the vial septum; the operator never re-aligns the cap to the vial mid-shift. Three-part is the engineered match between dispensing ergonomics and shielding integrity.
The 30 mm tier uses a two-part construction — separate cap and base. Vial loading happens by lifting the cap straight off the base; no rotation, no thread engagement. For the high-activity source-vial workflow where the vial gets re-opened multiple times across the dispensing campaign, the cap-off motion stays simple and the cap stays clean.
