Saxsons™ Foot-Operated Lead-Lined Waste BinLead-Lined Radioactive-Waste Containment with Hands-Free Foot-Pedal Operation
Saxsons own-brand foot-operated waste bin range for safe containment of contaminated solid waste — used syringes, swabs, vials, gloves, lab paper — from the radiopharmacy dispensing workflow. Configurable shielding-tier ladder covers the dispense-energy range across SPECT (Tc-99m), I-131 therapy, routine PET and high-activity PET / Lu-177 theranostic workflows. Shielding on ALL sides including the lid — operator-facing dose-rate stays inside the AERB / ICRP envelope at any standing position. Hands-free foot-pedal operation minimises hand-contamination risk and reduces hand-time over the open bin. Stainless-steel outer chassis with clean-room / GMP-grade finish option. Wheel-mounted variant for mobile high-throughput radiopharmacies. Designed and manufactured in India by Saxsons Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. in an ISO 9001 / ISO 13485 approved plant. Applications
Shielding tier matches the radiopharmaceutical class · all-side + lid shielding keeps operator-facing dose-rate inside envelope
Tc-99m SPECT solid waste
Light-shielding tier for routine cardiac / oncology / renal SPECT lists — used syringes, swabs, vial septa go in via the foot-pedal. Operator hand stays clear of the lid throughout.
I-131 thyroid / Ga-67 / In-111
Stepped-up shielding tier for mid-energy gamma — I-131 ablation prep waste, Ga-67 oncology waste, In-111 octreotide waste. Clean-room-grade stainless outer recommended for the daily wipe-down validation cycle.
Routine PET (FDG / Ga-68 / Cu-64)
PET-tier shielding sized per per-shift cumulative activity. The higher tier in the PET range is the right call for hot-labs dispensing 30+ unit doses per shift where cumulative solid-waste activity accumulates measurably.
Lu-177 theranostic-suite waste
High-shielding tier for PRRT / PSMA-617 / FAPI per-patient prep waste. Mobile wheel variant convenient for ferrying the bin between the dispensing bench and the decay-store after the shift.
High-throughput PET radiopharmacy
Highest-shielding tier for radiopharmacies running multi-dose source-vial PET dispensing. Larger-chassis options available for higher per-shift solid-waste volumes.
Decay-store routing
After the shift, lifted-out polybag transfers to the Saxsons decay drum (matched shielding tier) for the half-life-based hold before final biomedical-waste disposal — chain-of-custody documented on the AERB log.
Why Saxsons™ Foot-Operated Lead-Lined Waste Bin?
Unlike a bench-side shield where the operator stands in front, the waste bin is approached from any angle in the hot lab. Lead shielding on the body, base AND lid means the operator-facing dose-rate is bounded regardless of standing position; the AERB / ICRP cumulative-dose envelope holds across the shift.
The hand that just dispensed a radiopharmaceutical may carry trace contamination. A foot-pedal lid means the operator does not touch the lid surface during waste deposit — the hand-to-surface contamination path is broken, and the daily lid-decontamination wipe-down covers any incidental aerosol.
A high-shielding waste bin weighs significantly more than a light-shielding one. The wheel-mounted variant lets the operator move the high-shielding tier between dispense stations or to the decay-store without manual lift-carry — avoiding wrist / back injury risk and keeping the shielding mass where it needs to be.

FAQ
Foot-operated lead-lined waste bin — questions we hear from Indian NM hot-lab teams
Why foot-operated opening matters at the dispensing bench, why the bin needs lead lining, how to pick the Pb tier per isotope mix, and how the bin pairs with decay drums for the full waste chain.
Q.Why does a nuclear-medicine hot lab need a foot-operated waste bin rather than a standard clinical bin?
On a busy dispensing bench the technologist's hands hold the syringe, cap, cotton swab and dose calibrator readout — reaching to a hand-operated bin lid means either putting the syringe down (extra handling of the activated material) or opening the bin with a contaminated glove. Foot-operated opening keeps both hands free for the workflow and prevents cross-contamination of the bin lid. Small ergonomic detail, meaningful reduction in bench cross-contamination.
Q.Why lead-lined instead of a standard clinical waste bin?
Every syringe cap, cotton swab, alcohol wipe and glove dropped into the bin carries residual activity from the dispensing line. As the bin fills, the ambient dose rate around it climbs. On a busy PET or theranostic day the bench-side waste bin can become the highest-dose-rate point on the bench. Lead lining attenuates the collected residual activity so the technologist working next to the bin doesn't accumulate proximity dose across the shift.
Q.What Pb tier fits which department workflow?
Light Pb tier for routine SPECT (Tc-99m residuals — the bulk of the collected activity is short-lived). Mid Pb for mixed SPECT + I-131 practice. Heavier Pb for high-activity PET / theranostic where the bin holds Ga-68, F-18, Lu-177 syringe residuals. Wheel-mounted 12 mm Pb variant for departments moving the bin between dispense stations or to the decay-store room without manual lift-carry.
Q.What happens to the bin contents after collection?
The polybag liner transfers from the waste-bin to a lead-lined decay drum for the multi-week decay-hold, then the decayed contents enter the biomedical-waste stream. The waste-bin pairs with the Saxsons decay-drum range so the transfer is a lift-and-drop rather than a hand-transfer; the shielded chain from bench-to-disposal is unbroken.
Q.Is this a distributor-supplied bin or Saxsons-manufactured?
The Foot-Operated Lead-Lined Waste Bin is a Saxsons own-brand product — designed and manufactured in India by Saxsons Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. in an ISO 9001 / ISO 13485 approved plant. The Pb tier ladder, foot-pedal geometry, chassis sizes, wheel-mounted variant and decay-drum compatibility are engineered for the waste-handling workflows of Indian NM hot labs.
